| Customer Reviews: Works Great! February 27, 2010 kristabell (sewell, nj) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I used this product for a netbook. Was very easy to use and was able to install a printer on the netbook. I would definitely recommend this to anyone.
Fine, but you can't boot off of it. February 15, 2010 P. Egli (Illinois) I bought this so that i could boot off of it to install a better version of Ubuntu Linux than what Dell ships on the Inspiron Mini 10v. After putting both USB and CD drive at the top of the boot list in the BIOS, the computer still won't boot off of it... (Though once the computer has booted, it recognizes the drive just fine, so if that's what you need i think this would be a fine product).
If you do want to install a new Linux OS (Ubuntu or otherwise), what you should do is buy a 2+ Gigabyte USB thumb drive. Then use "UNetbootin" ( [...] ) to put the installer for your desired operating system onto the USB drive. Then you can boot from the USB drive (again, with some changes to boot order in the BIOS--press F2 during the start up screen to get there) and everything just works.
I used the Windows version of UNetbootin since the site said the Windows version tends to work better. Then everything worked and i could boot into and install Ubuntu without a hitch. Magic.
